SAARC interior minister’s meeting begins in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: Third SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) interior ministers’ conference began on Wednesday June 23, 2010 in Islamabad.

Strict safety measures have been taken place for the conference. A control room has been setup in the conference room of the Chief Commissioner office in Islamabad. Together with Rangers and FC people, 1,700 police officials have also been called in for extra security. Twelve further check-posts have also been setup.

The Interior Ministers from Hosting Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Maldives and Afghanistan are taking part in the discussion. A declaration will be passed against terrorism during the discussion.

Indian Home Minister P Chidambaram will also be part in the conference and a meeting is predictable between him and Pakistan’s Interior Minister Rehman Malik on the sidelines of the conference. It is also expected that Chidambaram will meet with President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani.

Malik will also tell Chidambaram about the newest investigations and court proceedings in regards to the Mumbai attacks.
